Description The Department of Geography and Geosciences at the University of Louisville seeks a candidate with a Ph.D. in Geography for a tenure-track faculty position with the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2010. A specialization in the cultural and social impacts of globalization and diversity is required. The successful candidate must be willing to develop courses relevant to the area of specialization, articulate humanistic and qualitative research methodologies within the context of contemporary applied geography, and enhance students' critical thinking skills through teaching and mentoring. Additional ability to work within current University programs focusing on major regions such as Asia, Latin America or Africa, as well as the Women and Gender Studies program, is desirable.

The Ph.D. is preferred at the time of appointment, but ABDs will be considered. The department aggressively pursues excellence in teaching and research within the context of the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Applied Geography. The department's physical facilities are excellent and opportunities to work with a variety of community organizations and governmental agencies are plentiful. A record or potential for teaching, research funding, and publication is required for consideration. Good interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills are necessary.
