The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Geography and Geology is seeking a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track instructor in geography who will teach on the University's Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Mississippi.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The instructor will teach introductory courses in human or physical geography as needed. The ability to teach GIS courses is requested but not required. The instructor will maintain regular office hours for students, coordinate the preparation and instruction of laboratory sections, and advise geography majors on the Gulf Park campus. The position also provides opportunities to engage in undergraduate research and professional service (e.g., committee work) at the department, college or university level.
Minimum requirements include a MS degree in geography or closely related field from an accredited university and 18 hours of graduate-level course work in Geography and the ability to teach at the university level. Evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching, student mentoring and professional service is also required.
PhD is preferred. Prior college teaching experience is preferred. Ability to teach GIS courses is also preferred.
