Examples of courses that may need to be taught include ASTR105 (Astrobiology), ASTR106 (Concepts of the Solar System), ASTR120 (Archaeoastronomy (Diversity), ASTR323 (junior-level observational astronomy, with lab), ASTR427 (senior-level galaxies and cosmology), and PHYS103 (first-year physics tutorial).
Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses with laboratories at all levels in the academic unit, teach advanced courses in observational and theoretical astronomy, advise students, engage in scholarly activities, and participate in continual development of curriculum and assessment activities.

They should be willing to participate in teaching using alternative delivery methods such as online and hybrid. The Physics and Astronomy Department serves ~225 students per year with six tenured faculty members and two term positions in about 20 different Physics courses and 6 different Astronomy courses. More information is available at https://www.stcloudstate.edu/physics/
Qualifications and experience:

Required:

  • A Ph.D. in physics or astronomy (or ABD with degree completion by August 1, 2018)
  • Evidence of ability to teach physics and astronomy effectively at all levels including laboratory courses.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate effectively.
  • Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Preferred:

  • Research and/or teaching experience beyond the Ph.D.
