Professor (all ranks) in Cross-Cutting (Energy Systems)

Location: Arizona State University – Polytechnic Campus

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and The Polytechnic School (TPS) seeks applicants for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions in Cross-Cutting (Energy Systems). Areas of interest include but not limited to are distributed energy resources; alternative energy systems; hybrid power systems integration; on-grid and off-grid systems; smart energy systems; portable, stationary, and transportation energy systems; energy management systems; industrial energy systems; energy analytics; energy security and cybersecurity; operational or expeditionary energy systems.

The Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering program at The Polytechnic School is particularly interested in the candidate’s experience in basic science, applied research, and the ability to develop their own competitive research program and complement existing faculty. The current opening is intended to broaden this expertise and expand collaborations.

Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt innovative educational practices in graduate and undergraduate education, develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and undertake service activities. ASU strongly encourages transdisciplinary collaboration and use-inspired, socially relevant research. This contribution to ASU-wide initiative includes the Global Security Initiative, LightWorks, Global Institute of Sustainability, Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiative, etc., as well as Poly-campus based initiatives in solar photovoltaics (PV), sustainability energy, distributed energy, microgrids, and energy storage and conversion. Successful candidates will be encouraged to expand expertise and collaborations in these areas.

Appointments will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2018. Although the tenure home may be in any of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, The Polytechnic School is currently the most involved in the interest areas of this research.


Required qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated evidence of research capability and commitment to teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank


Desired qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative approach to research and the use of modern pedagogical practices in teaching
