Overview

The Professional Edge Center (Career Services) at the University of Indianapolis seeks applications for an Assistant Director of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This is a full-time, exempt staff position. The person in this position will be an integral partner in developing students’ social capital and a vital ambassador of the University and the Professional Edge Center team. The successful candidate will possess relationships within the tech industry across the state.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maximize student integration with faculty, staff, and alumni along with contacts from the world of work to create mentorship and work experience for UIndy students through special programming and networking opportunities.
  • Assist students in benefiting from frequent exposure to professionals in their chosen field and developing professional relationships with an eye toward identifying opportunities for career opportunities by developing students’ social capital
  • Further develop professional connections with leadership to expand experiential learning experiences for the students (this may include, but is not limited to talent pipelines, corporate visits, and applicable classroom projects)
  • Work collaboratively with fellow subject-area colleagues and regularly engage with the Office of Alumni Engagement and Development
  • Assist in identifying mentor/sponsorship and career-related experiences for students, including special programming and networking opportunities, as well as assisting in the development and execution of industry seminars
  • Call on existing relationships and cultivating new relationships to solicit job and internship openings
  • Determine parameters for internships
  • Follow up to discuss the resumes of students’ applications
  • Administer career exploration tools
  • Train students on the skills employers desire
  • Gauge alumni volunteer and participation interests
  • Encourage students to avail themselves of the services and resources offered through the Professional Edge Center
  • Discuss project or consulting-based needs with outside entities
  • Recruit employers for positions

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of three years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience working with a technical client base
  • Resourceful attitude and exceptional critical thinking skills
  • Project and event management experience
  • Ability to connect with a multitude of audiences
  • Strong follow-through with all constituents
  • Strong commitment to customer service
