The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (SD Mines) invites applications for a nine-month tenure track position in paleontology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The department seeks a candidate with a robust background in analytical paleontology, such as geochemical or statistical applications in paleontology. We seek a candidate who will develop an externally funded research program that complements current departmental research strengths. The applicant should maintain a strong commitment to teaching courses and advising student research at the undergraduate and graduate level. The department offers BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees with emphases in geology or paleontology, including an MS in Paleontology. A Ph.D. in geology or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment. Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.
SD Mines is in Rapid City, SD, which lies at the center of a diverse geological terrane. The Black Hills uplift is an extension of the northern Rocky Mountains, which contains a historical gold mining region, and is flanked by the fossil-rich Badlands and the energy resource-rich Williston and Powder River basins. Our Black Hills Natural Sciences Field Station offers a variety of geology, geological engineering, volcanology, paleontology, and environmental field camps in locations worldwide.
