The Department of Geography at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Physical Geography to support our concentration in Earth science/environmental studies. We seek a dynamic scholar-teacher to help us build on existing departmental strengths with expertise in one or more Physical Geography subfields (climatology, hydrology, geomorphology and biogeography). Proficiency in GIS, remote sensing, or spatial statistics is desirable, but not required. It is expected that the successful candidate will teach lower-division courses in Earth Science and Geosystems Science in addition to upper-division and graduate courses in the individual’s area of specialization. Further information on the Department’s programs and strategic directions can be found at geo.uncg.edu. Successful applicants will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, train a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students from various backgrounds, and make significant contributions to our Ph.D. and M.A. programs and undergraduate curriculum. The Department has strong associations with several interdisciplinary programs at UNCG, including Environmental & Sustainability Studies, and the potential for developing synergies with other programs should be identified in the application letter. The position will begin August 1, 2018. Candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
