The Department of Chemistry at Northern Michigan University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Organic and General Chemistry. This is a campus-based, three-year term position to begin in August 2018.

The Department of Chemistry has twelve full-time faculty and offers undergraduate degrees in ACS-certified chemistry, biochemistry, forensic biochemistry, and medicinal plant chemistry. Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties of this position will be to teach some combination of lecture, lab, and discussion for freshman and sophomore service courses.

Minimum Qualifications: The ideal applicant must have an earned Ph.D in Chemistry or a closely related field. Prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Excellent oral and written communication, time management, and basic computer skills. Commitment to undergraduate education and demonstration of excellence in teaching undergraduate students. Excellent problem-solving skills and laboratory diagnostic capabilities. Ability to work well with an instructional team, including but not limited to fellow instructors and laboratory assistants.

Additional Desirable Qualifications: Teaching experience at the university level; previous lab teaching experience; previous experience with common organic laboratory techniques and commonly used organic instrumentation; and willingness to participate in departmental activities.
