The Department of Chemistry at the University of La Verne invites applications for a tenure-track and department chair faculty position starting in the Fall 2017 Semester. A PhD in Chemistry is required with a specialty in the areas of Organo-Metallic/Organic Chemistry. This position will be filled at the Associate Professor level, commensurate with experience.
The Department of Chemistry offers B.S. and B.A. degree programs. The department promotes excellence in undergraduate teaching and research. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Organic Chemistry and associated labs, Advanced Organic, other courses in their field, and lower division and GE courses with any associated labs. The candidate will develop and supervise appropriate research projects in their area of expertise for undergraduate chemistry students. Participation in the faculty governance is a requirement for all faculty members, as well as a commitment for community service and diversity. In addition to faculty duties, the candidate must be an energetic leader to serve as a Chair of the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate must be qualified to receive tenure at the rank of Associate Professor. They must be able to move the department forward with innovative leadership, including a demonstrated ability to work across disciplinary lines: Biology, Math, and Physics. They must also be able to manage the expenses in the departmental budget and chemistry faculty and staff. They will be responsible for departmental, division, college, and university meetings, as well as course scheduling, part-time and adjunct hiring, and the hiring of the department’s teaching assistants.
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. The applicant will provide evidence of their academic achievement and other appropriate indications of their ability to perform successfully with the academic and professional duties assigned. They will demonstrate their ability and potential for professional growth, and their ability to work with, communicate, and support their professional peers. They will share their knowledge and insights gained from the exploration of his/her area of specialization. The Department Chair position requires a strong record of leadership and excellence in teaching and chemical research.
The salary range for each position is dependent upon qualifications and departmental equity.
