Position Description
CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT. Full-time, academic year, lecturer positions beginning September 7, 2017. One year appointment (with possible extension). Qualified candidates from all disciplines are invited to apply.

Lecturers are expected to be involved with scholarly activities that contribute to their currency, the classroom, and their profession. Teaching effectiveness, understanding of the teaching and learning process, and currency in the subject matter of teaching assignments are all important aspects of the lecturer position.

Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills
A Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry, or related discipline, or a Ph.D. in chemical education (with an M.S. in chemistry) is required at the time of hire. Qualified candidates from all disciplines of chemistry are invited to apply. Successful candidates must be committed to quality undergraduate education with demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate laboratory or lecture courses. Teaching effectiveness, understanding of the teaching and learning process, and currency in the subject matter of teaching assignments are all important aspects of the lecturer position. Candidates with 4+ years of teaching experience have the potential for a senior position with additional responsibilities outside of teaching.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers B.S. degrees in both chemistry and biochemistry. The department also serves many technical programs in the University. Students may choose concentrations in Polymers and Coatings, Molecular Biology, or a focused Master’s program in Polymers and Coatings Science.
