Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology to begin September 1, 2017.

Minimum Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in geology or a related field, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in teaching; candidates should describe their commitment to teaching in a student-centered undergraduate geology curriculum in a liberal arts environment.

Preferred Qualifications: We are interested in applicants who have experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives. The strongest candidates will articulate their intersections with emerging employment opportunities in the geosciences, and complement our existing department strengths.

Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching load will be six or seven course equivalents. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in earth materials/mineralogy (200-level), structural geology (300-level), petrology (300-level), and introductory geology. The candidate may also be expected to teach a course of his/her choosing in our January Term (a one-month short course), and to assist in the supervision of senior theses.
