Overview

The Department of Chemistry at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biochemistry to begin Fall 2018. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching in an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education. It will be expected that the person appointed to this role will demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues, as SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to ensuring that its graduates are educated to succeed in an increasingly complex, multicultural, and interdependent world.

Responsibilities Include: Contribution to the department in the form of teaching undergraduate courses in Biochemistry, Physical Biochemistry, and General Chemistry, including the respective laboratory sections. Additional responsibilities include scholarly work, student advisement, and service to the department and college. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field at the time of appointment. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is also required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching Biochemistry and General Chemistry, postdoctoral experience, and the potential to seek extramural funds to support publication-quality research with undergraduates in Biochemistry or related fields.
