Semester: Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
Salary: $2250 per credit

Responsibilities:

Marine Biology (BIO 384)
This upper-division course provides an in-depth examination of the biological processes that shape marine organisms and ecosystems. Emphasis is placed on the diversity, physiology, behavior, and ecology of marine life, from microorganisms to large vertebrates, across coastal and open-ocean environments. Laboratory included. Semester: Fall 2026.
General Biology (BIOL 100)
This course introduces fundamental concepts in biology for students who are not majoring in the life sciences. Through real-world examples and current biological issues, students will explore how living systems work—from molecules and cells to organisms, ecosystems, and human health. No laboratory. Semester: Spring 2027
The adjunct professor will teach the following courses:
BIO 384 (4 credits)
BIOL 100 (4 credits)
Position Qualifications and Requirements:
Whittier College is seeking a broadly trained Biologist with a preferred expertise in Marine Biology, Biology of Organisms, and/or Cellular Molecular Biology. Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and a dedication to innovative and effective teaching that prepares a diverse student body for future success. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a Ph.D. or Masters, we will also consider candidates who have achieved ABD status within the biological sciences in any one of the fields mentioned above. Teaching load includes two lower division laboratory sections, one nonmajors general biology course and one upper division course with lab. Courses described below.
