The Department of Geography at UC Berkeley seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor bringing physically-based expertise in environmental change and how it affects communities — mechanisms and impacts such as more frequent and severe heatwaves and drought, altered hydrological cycles and water resources, and land-use and land-cover change.
About the Position
The successful candidate will strengthen the department's quantitative physical geography research across Earth System Science, Critical Environments, and Geospatial Representation. Start date is July 1, 2027.
Qualifications
A PhD (or equivalent international degree) is required, or candidates currently enrolled in a PhD program at the time of application may apply.
Preferred
- Expertise in physical mechanisms of environmental change
- Quantitative measurement experience, including field data collection and spatial modeling
- Teaching and mentoring experience
- Strong research productivity with funding potential
- Ability to co-produce environmental solutions with local community organizations
Compensation
$84,100–$132,900 (9-month academic year salary), commensurate with experience.
