Candidates should have a Ph.D. or be ABD in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field, and possess experience in teaching (preference will be given to candidates having teaching experience at a four-year college or university), exposure to undergraduate research in mathematics, and relevant on-going or planned publications.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position ideally to begin in January 2020 (or at least in August 2020).
The candidate will be expected to effectively teach a variety of Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Statistics courses at every level of the undergraduate curriculum, to advice and mentor students, to promote undergraduate research, and to engage in scholarship and professional service. The Department encourages applications from all areas of mathematics and we are especially interested in candidates with strong applied mathematics specialties (examples include, Machine Learning, Numerical Analysis, Data Science, Scientific Computing, Modeling and Simulation, Operations Research, Signal Processing, etc.).
The candidate must be able to communicate effectively through spoken, written, and visual media.
Salary and academic rank are commensurately depending on directly related education and experience level. A Ph.D. is required for the Assistant Professor position. Candidates who are ABD could start at Instructor rank and salary, and move to Assistant Professor after successful completion of the Ph.D. In such an event that an Instructor is hired who is ABD, the said candidate would be expected to complete the Ph.D. within one year of official start date at UNC Pembroke.
