Assistant Professor, Geography

The Department of Chemistry and GeoSciences of Jacksonville State University’s College of Science & Mathematics is seeking to hire a scholar for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Assistant Professor, in the College of Science and Mathematics, provides educational services for the geography program (housed in the Department of Chemistry and Geosciences) to traditional and non-traditional students during the day or evening. The Assistant Professor may be required to teach human geography, physical geography, and geospatial technology courses on campus, off-campus, and online depending on the needs of the department. This individual will be required to recruit students to the program. They will serve as a mentor to students in the program and create faculty-led research opportunities for students. The geography program is student-centered and working with students is a critical part of the position.

All applicants must have an earned Doctorate in Geography at the time of appointment and accomplishments sufficient to indicate the ability to meet the requirements of the rank of Assistant Professor at JSU in teaching, research, service, and collegiality.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience and knowledge of any of the following:

• ArcPro suite of geospatial software and analytical processes
• Robotic Total Station for High-Resolution GPS data collection and analysis
• Remote Sensing Software and Analytics
• Drone piloting, digital data collection, and data processing.
• LiDAR, multispectral, digital aerial photo data collection and manipulation.
• Cartography and Geo-visualization principles and applications
• Qualitative Human Geography teaching and applications.

Must also have the ability to:

• Mentor students.
• Participate in college and departmental student recruitment and retention initiatives
• Perform faculty-led student research.
• Effectively teach using interactive methods and pedagogy.
• Meet all required schedules and deadlines related to the role
• Develop and maintain professional work relationships
• Support the atmosphere of collegiality within and between departments
