JOB SUMMARY:

Lincoln University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Chemistry (expertise in Polymer Chemistry or Computational Science are desired). In addition to upper-level courses in the applicant’s field of interest, the applicant will also be responsible for teaching introductory chemistry and physics courses for majors and general education courses for non-science majors (ie. Physical Science), as needed by the department. The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher of undergraduate students as well as a scholar with an ambitious research and publication agenda. The ideal candidate will show evidence of thoughtful intellectual engagement with chemistry. Candidates will be expected to teach four courses a semester and be expected to teach in-person courses ranging from chemistry to physics.

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. by the hire date.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The successful candidate will:
  • Offer dynamic, engaging, and student-centered pedagogy utilizing up-to-date expertise in chemistry and the best pedagogical practices in STEM.
  • Will teach 4 courses in-person a semester including polymer chemistry, introductory chemistry and physics for majors, and general education chemistry and physics courses for non-majors (ie. Physical Science) and actively mentor and advise students.
  • Will be a contributing member of departmental and university required meetings and initiatives.
  • Maintain active professional engagement and student-centered research, which are required for promotion and tenure consideration.
  • Will share the University’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racist pedagogy and be prepared to join an active cohort of faculty who teach undergraduate courses and advise/mentor students.

EDUCATION:

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry or related discipline (completed by the time of hire).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Evidence of 1+ years of teaching at undergraduate level
  • Proven agenda of research and professional engagement
  • Communication skills consistent with effective teaching, mentoring and motivating chemistry and biochemistry majors from a broad range of cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds and actively participating in the department and broader university.
  • Experience in course design, development, and assessment of student learning out comes.
  • Experience utilizing LMS such as canvas and other software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions and protection from weather conditions.
