Newberry College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Mathematics beginning in August 2020. Candidates need to have the education, skills and experience to teach a wide range of courses in Mathematics. Preferences given to applicants with experience working closely with and/or instructing lower level Computer Science courses.

The successful candidate has a demonstrated history of successfully mentoring and development of mathematical and problem-solving skills by majors and non-majors. They also have a demonstrated history of successfully working with diverse populations. Finally, the successful candidate can engage students through personalized pedagogy to be active participants in their learning, builds confidence in mathematical abilities, and has alternate strategies to help students grasp the material.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teach 12 credit hours a semester and serve as program coordinator for mathematics. This includes assisting the Department chair in program-specific duties including scheduling courses and strategic planning. It also includes leading in-depth assessments of student learning, curriculum review, and program effectiveness which leads to improvements in the student learning experience.

The successful candidate will be an active member of the campus community which includes being widely available for student help, developing student support programs such as supplemental instruction, and serving on department & institutional committees. The successful candidate will understand the relationship of Mathematics to the newly approved majors in Computer Science and Information Technology, and contribute to curriculum development and program growth.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited university required. Doctoral Degree preferred.
