The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, recently named the 6th best public high school with the number 1 ranked faculty in the U.S., is accepting applications for a faculty position to teach Biology.  The successful candidate will be prepared to teach advanced courses in biology such as Genetics, Microbiology, Ecology and Biochemistry.  The final teaching assignment will depend upon student needs.

The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is a public, residential high school for academically gifted and talented eleventh and twelfth grade students located on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women, Columbus, Mississippi.  The mission is “to enhance the future of Mississippi in the global society by 1) meeting the individual needs of gifted and talented students through providing innovative learning experiences and leadership development in a residential environment, 2) providing quality educational leadership for other educators, and 3) conducting aggressive outreach programs that impact students across Mississippi.”  Because of the unique nature of MSMS and its mission, all faculty and staff members are expected to provide state and national leadership in their respective areas of expertise.  For more information about MSMS and the science curriculum, please visit http://www.themsms.org.


  1. A Ph.D. and the ability to also teach chemistry are preferred. Master’s Degree or above in biology or a related field is required.   2. Teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.  Five years of experience and a valid Mississippi teaching license (endorsement 181) are desirable.


  1. Salary is based upon the established position scale.  Beginning salary ranges are from $56,087 to $59,359.
  2. The position is contracted for 190 days.
  3. Reporting date will be early August.
