Overview

The Biology Department of Notre Dame of Maryland University within the School of Arts, Sciences, and Business seeks to hire a broadly trained biologist for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level, beginning August 2024. Teaching responsibilities would include biochemistry, microbiology, and introductory biology to undergraduate students in the Biology, Nursing, Health sciences, Radiological sciences, and Behavioral Neuroscience majors.  Additional courses for a general education audience, or upper-level electives in the candidate’s area of expertise may be offered. The Department seeks to welcome a colleague who values working in a liberal arts and sciences environment. Faculty are expected to be deeply involved in the life of the University and committed to the University’s mission.   Potential hires will also advise students, participate in major University events, pursue scholarship, and be open to teaching evenings and to online teaching assignments.  Service to both the University and the Department is required.  Candidates should have interest in research that could involve undergraduates and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Requirements:

  • Candidates for this position must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant biological discipline. A strong commitment to excellent teaching and prior experience teaching at the college level are required. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral experience and experience in bioinformatics
  • Candidates should be open to the possibility of teaching courses during evening hours and on weekends, as required by the department’s scheduling needs. Flexibility in accommodating diverse class schedules is appreciate and will be considered in the assignment of teaching responsibilities.
