Overview

Stephens College invites applications for a full-time 9-month non-tenure track position in Mathematics and Physics in the School of Health Sciences. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in both physics and mathematics to science and health majors, as well as develop experiential courses or mini-courses in quantitative skills tailored to students in non-STEM disciplines. We are seeking a creative colleague who can partner with faculty outside the sciences to pioneer innovative ways to engage their majors in mathematical reasoning and skills that emphasize how students will experience those concepts in their professional careers. Preference may be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability in computer information systems, as well. The successful candidate will join a dynamic faculty team in Life Sciences that is diversifying its offerings to students and expanding opportunities for both student and faculty development, including the new WiSR (Women in STEM Research) Program.

Job Duties:

  1. Develop and teach undergraduate courses in mathematics and physics to science majors
  2. Create new ways of integrating mathematical and other quantitative concepts into a diverse General Education curriculum
  3. Advise students on their academic and professional progress
  4. Provide service to the college and profession
  5. Assist in development of curricula and programs within the School of Health Sciences

Education and Experience:

  1. Earned PhD in mathematics, physics, or related field
  2. Experience teaching at the collegiate or university level
  3. Experience designing and teaching engaging courses for non-STEM majors
  4. Ability to implement innovative and diverse teaching styles to a wide variety of learners
  5. Excellent collaborative and communication skills

Highly Desired:

  1. Postdoctoral or industry experience
  2. Experience mentoring undergraduate research students
  3. Ability to teach introductory courses in computer information systems
