The Union College Department of Geosciences invites applications for a one-year visiting position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in Fall 2024. About the Position. Teaching responsibilities will include a writing intensive mid-level sedimentology and stratigraphy course with lab, an introductory environmental geosciences course with lab, with an additional course depending on the successful candidate’s area(s) of expertise. Union has three 10-week trimesters. This position involves teaching one lecture and two laboratory sections for two of the trimesters, and one lecture in the third trimester. The successful candidate may involve undergraduates in their research program, and the Department will provide space and access to an exceptional suite of advanced instrumentation  (see https://www.union.edu/geosciences/geology-equipment), including LA-ICP-MS, a full stable isotope lab, SEM, XRD, and ion chromatographs, in support of research.

How to Apply. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of the applicant’s experience and interests in teaching (maximum 2 pages), diversity statement (maximum 1 page), and contact information for three references via our portal at http://jobs.union.edu/. An email will be sent automatically to the references requesting a letter of recommendation after an initial screening. The teaching statement should reflect on teaching experience, how the applicant can include our rich local geology into classes, as well as how the applicant can both contribute to diverse educational experiences and offerings and engage with students with diverse skills or backgrounds. Union has a commitment to increasing diversity and supporting an environment in which people who come from varied and diverse backgrounds can thrive. As such, we strongly encourage applications from members of traditionally underrepresented groups in geosciences. All candidates should share how they can further Union’s diversity goals in their diversity statement.

The deadline for applications is April 15, 2024. All new hires of Union College are subject to a thorough education, work experience, and criminal history background check. Inquiries about the position may be sent to [email protected].
