Overview

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Undergraduate Studies is seeking applications for an instructor or lecturer in Environmental Sciences (ES), Sustainability, and Geographic Information Systems (pending program approval). The anticipated start date of the position is August 2024. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure earning position with an expected teaching load of eight courses per academic year and the possibility of optional summer teaching.

The primary responsibility of this position is teaching regularly offered undergraduate courses in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, and Geographic Information Systems with particular focus on core courses, planning, urban systems and the built environment and the potential for additional ES and GIS courses. The instructor or lecturer will also provide appropriate service to the university and program, including coordinating the GIS certificate.

One of the nation’s largest universities with over 69,000 students, UCF is a metropolitan research institution, with the Carnegie Foundation’s highest classification for research activity and community engagement. UCF has a diverse student population, with approximately a quarter being first-generation students and a large percentage being multilingual. Qualification

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (for an instructor) or doctoral degree (for a lecturer) in Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, Sustainability, Biology, or related discipline from an accredited institution at time of application.
  • Professional experience in sustainability and urban systems.
  • Potential for research production in Environmental Sciences or Sustainability.
  • Ability to teach in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, and Geographic Information Systems.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Ability to engage with web-based instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented research experience in Environmental Sciences.
  • Documented teaching experience in Environmental Sciences and Geographic Information Systems.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience with web-based instruction.
  • Significant experience with professional use of Geographic Information Systems.
