Overview
The Mathematics Department at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position. This is a teaching and advising position, not a research position. The position begins September 1, 2024, for a term of two academic years and is renewable.
Duties will include teaching 24 units of courses in an academic year, advising majors, and participating in all university activities, including math assessments, curriculum development, open houses, admitted students’ days, and commencements.
The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in mathematical sciences, a related field, or mathematics education, with evidence of a strong commitment to, and successful history of, teaching core courses at the level of elementary statistics, discrete mathematics, single and multivariable calculus, and differential equations to a diverse student body of science and engineering majors. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience utilizing technology, including computer algebra systems such as Mathematica and MATLAB, or other software for teaching mathematics such as R and Python, and with experience in online education and course management systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in mathematical sciences, a related field, or mathematics education at the time of appointment
- Experience mentoring students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.
Demonstrated experience teaching core courses at the level of elementary statistics, discrete mathematics, single and multivariable calculus, and differential equations to a diverse student body.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience utilizing technology, including computer algebra systems such as Mathematica and MATLAB, or other software for teaching mathematics such as R and Python.
- Experience in online education and course management systems.
