Overview

The Department of Computer Science, in the College of Science at Utah State University, invites applications for one Assistant/Associate professor position at the Logan campus. This is an academic year (nine-month), tenure-track position. The relative weights assigned to domains of responsibility are 50% in research or creative endeavors, 40% in teaching, and 10% in service. The department is interested in strengthening and expanding its focus in Software Engineering, Programming Languages/Compilers, Algorithms and Complexity, Robotics, High Performance Computing/Cloud Computing, and Networking/Network Security, but strong applicants in other areas may be considered. The anticipated start date is August 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Applicants will be expected to create a research program that is consistently productive, sustainable, and nationally recognized for excellence. Applicants will also be expected to contribute effectively to the instructional mission of the university; the normal teaching load in the Computer Science Department is three semester-length courses per year, with a reduced teaching load (one course in fall semester and one course in spring semester) in the first two years. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate effectiveness in service to the operations and governance of the University, to their professional societies, or to the outreach and extension mission of the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in computer science or closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
  • The position requires demonstrated research success, a significant potential for attracting external research funding, excellence in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • The ability to supervise student research.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multiple years of industrial or academic experience
