Overview

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment as assistant professor commencing September 2020 to teach at New Jersey City University (NJCU) William J. Maxwell College of Arts & Sciences. The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is housed in our newly-renovated Science Building. We have dedicated research and classroom labs, including a state-of-the-art GIS/GPS lab, which houses 30 high-speed Dell desktops and 4 dozen laptops/ tablets, all running ESRIĀ® software. GPS capabilities range from sub-meter mapping grade (Leica Zeno) to extremely accurate (1 cm) survey grade (Leica 1200). Additional field capabilities include Ground Penetrating Radar (GSSI SIR-10). Analytical instrumentation includes: ICP-MS; Ion Chromatography; total mercury and methylmercury analyzers; an organic elemental analyzer, and a particle size analyzer. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will be required to teach both basic and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Earth and Environmental Sciences, focusing on new major and minor programs in GIS and Sustainability Studies. The successful candidate will develop new cutting-edge programs and course offerings, engaging high impact practices at undergraduate/graduate levels. Candidates are also expected to apply for external grants to maintain an active and sustained research agenda in their respective field, with publications in peer-reviewed journals.

EDUCATION: Candidates should have an earned Ph.D. in Earth Science, Environmental Science, or a related field from an accredited university with a concentration or extensive work in Geographic Information Science (GIS) and/or Environmental Sustainability.

EXPERIENCE: Candidates with expertise in geospatial analysis and modeling, environmental applications of GIS, and sustainability are preferred and encouraged to apply.

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should provide evidence of excellence in teaching, a proven track record of peer-review publications, and an active research agenda that will primarily involve undergraduate students at an urban comprehensive university such as NJCU.
